Nothing predates the Bible! Genesis 1:1 gives us a time and a Creator and the rest of the chapter tells the exact order of all His creation. The Bible is the sole authority of all spiritual matters (2 Pet 1:3) and it is continually proven to be completely accurate in areas of science and history. The following are a list of facts compiled from Ray Comfort’s Scientific Facts In The Bible along with various articles I’ve collected and a few things from our good brethren at Apologetics Press.
It was long believed by man that the Earth was flat. A practical demonstration of Earth’s sphericity was achieved by the Ferdinand Magellan & Juan Sebastion Elcano expedition of circumnavigation (1519-1521).
In the field of human genetics there is a term of “Mitochondrial Eve” or “MRCA” (most recent common ancestor). In other words, she was the one woman from whom all living persons today descend. My first thought would be Eve. However, the wife of Noah was the mother who bore the sons that replenished the Earth after the flood (Gen 9:19). Noah’s wife would have been grandmother to every child born after the flood (Gen 9:1). Again true science and Bible perfectly agree!
The Bible explains the cycle of water. With all the recent flooding this has been a much discussed topic in our home! Ecclessiastes 1:7 says, “All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again”. This statement may not grab our attention but, considering that the Mississippi River dumps 518 billion gallons of water into the Gulf, we ask where does all that water go? The answer is found in the following verses: Ecc 11:3 – If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth; the cycle completes itself as described in scripture: Amos 9:6 – he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name.
These facts along with so many more only affirm the Bible to be from God (2 Tim 3:16). All these things, the vast majority of people will credit being “discovered” by man were given to us in scripture centuries before man came to accept them as true.
I personally enjoy these studies and will try to provide more articles along these lines so we can especially pass these truths onto our young folks as well as others, to help build their faith by showing them all the accuracy of God’s Word.
