And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor. (2 Sam. 12:1)
Nathan was sent and so are we (Matt. 28:18-20). We go to all the world and this is accomplished in many ways and by many means, such as personal evangelism, public teaching in gospel meetings, and such and even in our worship as we teach in song and preach the Word.
We are carrying such a powerful message. The gospel contains the power to change men’s lives today. Romans 1:16 tells us, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek”. We just need to learn how to connect with people. Some are readers, some will engage in discussion, others may prefer material they can view, and we are so blessed to have materials and means to accommodate any learning style. However, we don’t want to allow ourselves to become discouraged if we meet little interest. Jesus warned that few would follow so to speak in Matthew chapter 7. Persistence is key.
Nathan’s message was simple. The simple things endure. The Gospel is simple. By in large the Bible is simple. I understand sometimes we encounter a text that might require some extra effort but God is not the author of confusion (1 Cor. 14:33). It’s very important to approach the Bible as it concerns me and my daily life. After all, that is why it was written to us (2 Tim 3:16-17).
His message was for the person with whom he spoke and not someone else. We would all do well to remember this. After all, that’s why we are carrying the message to help others lead a more Godly life, although it may not always be popular (2 Tim 4:2).
He was brave. Not only was he before the King but David was as mighty a warrior as mankind has ever known, yet he spoke without fear it would seem. When I love my fellow man more than fear him, then I will carry the Word as I should.
